Drinking Water Testing Services
AEM staff work with your organization to design and implement a drinking water testing program that meets your individual needs. Whether you operate a single facility or multiple facilities and whether you are served by municipal potable water or by a private well, AEM can develop a scope of work and schedule of services to meet your needs.
AEM can evaluate your facility’s drinking water for the following contaminants:
Clients that contact AEM are generally concerned with potential lead in drinking water. Drinking water can become contaminated with lead when it passes through lead pipes, new brass pipes and fittings, or pipes that are joined with lead solder. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) banned the use of plumbing fixtures, fittings, and solder that were not “lead free” after June 1986. However, this ban did not address lead containing components already in place.
Other contaminants may be introduced into drinking water by a number of sources including plumbing components, cross-contamination from sewer lines, and, especially in the case of private wells, releases to groundwater from industrial or contaminated sites.
AEM tests drinking water outlets in educational institutions in accordance with USEPA’s 3Ts for Reducing Lead in Drinking Water in Schools (October 2006) technical guidance. In addition, AEM follows USEPA’s Quality System and Technical Procedures for collecting and managing all samples. Finally, AEM utilizes only laboratories that are certified by the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Conference.
